Odisha police crime and cybercrime enforcement

In the Ganjam district of Odisha, cyber police conducted operations targeting mobile theft and illegal online betting. Authorities recovered 121 mobile phones and dismantled a betting-app network operating from rented houses in the Rambha area. Three individuals from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh were arrested, and police seized various digital devices, SIM cards, and debit cards.

Following these activities, the Odisha Police announced broader strategic reforms to combat organized crime, cybercrime, and illegal drug distribution. Director General of Police Vinaytosh Mishra outlined plans to establish special units in every district to manage sensitive and inter-state investigations.

To bolster cybercrime efforts, the state is preparing to launch a state cyber command coordination centre and has already established cyber police stations in every district. The department also reported an increase in the recovery rate of stolen mobile phones, rising from 7 percent to 27 percent, with a target of 50 percent by the end of December. Additionally, the police have requested 76 crore rupees to restore and maintain CCTV surveillance systems across the state to comply with Supreme Court guidelines.
