Offshore wind energy development in Poland
Overview
Development of offshore wind projects in the Polish Baltic Sea has reached several key milestones. The Baltic Power project, a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power, has finished installing its 76 Vestas turbines. The facility is now undergoing technological startup and integration testing with the national power grid to prepare for its role in supplying approximately 3 percent of Poland’s electricity demand.
Simultaneously, the Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 projects, led by Equinor and Polenergia, have completed the installation of 100 turbine foundations, two offshore substations, and 120 km of export cables. Construction is progressing on onshore infrastructure, including a transformer station near Ustka and a service base in Łeba. These combined projects, with a total capacity of 1440 MW, are expected to begin delivering electricity in 2027.
