OMSA fleet maintenance and service updates
Overview
The Operadora Metropolitana de Servicios de Autobuses (OMSA) in the Dominican Republic suspended its special bus lending services for private individuals and institutions to address high levels of fleet deterioration. Executive Vice President Onéximo González stated the suspension was necessary to implement a maintenance program and preserve the entity’s capacity to provide daily public urban transport.
Following these maintenance efforts, OMSA relaunched the Ciudad Juan Bosch corridor using 25 refurbished buses equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi. To mark the relaunch, the service was offered free for 15 days before returning to a standard fare of RD$35. The corridor provides daily connections to several key areas, including Marginal de Las Américas and Avenida Ecológica.
Broader modernization efforts are also being proposed for the national system. The G12 Group has submitted proposals to the Intrant to modernize transportation, which include the promotion of electric vehicles and the implementation of staggered work schedules.
