Opel entry-level vehicle launches

Overview

Opel has expanded its lineup of entry-level vehicle options with the introduction of new ‘Start’ trims for both passenger and commercial models.

In late August, the company introduced the ‘Frontera Start’, an entry-level trim for its Frontera compact crossover. Designed to lower market entry barriers in Europe, the gasoline version in Germany starts at 21,990 euros and features a 1.2-liter engine. To maintain affordability, the trim includes a physical key ignition and a smartphone holder instead of a touchscreen. An electric version is also available.

Following this, Opel launched the Combo Start, a compact van aimed at small businesses, technical crews, and fleet operators. This entry-level model is priced approximately €1,000 lower than previous versions. The van is available with petrol, diesel, and battery-electric powertrain options, with the electric model featuring a 42 kWh usable battery capacity.

Practical features for the Combo Start include a four-way adjustable driver’s seat and the ‘FlexiSeat’ front passenger seat, which can be folded to increase cargo space by 0.5 m³. Other options include a ‘Connect Box’ with emergency call functions, a smartphone station for navigation, and the ‘ModuTable’ workspace. The Combo Start is part of a broader range of simplified commercial vehicles from Stellantis, which also includes models from Citroën, Fiat, and Peugeot.
