Oradea digital waste collection rollout

Overview

Oradea has initiated the rollout of 367 digitalized ecological islands for selective waste collection, a project funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The installation includes 100 units from 2024 and 267 units implemented in the current year. Each island is equipped with five modules for separating biodegradable, residual, glass, and other waste fractions.

To support the transition, the municipality has launched an information and training campaign scheduled to run weekly through the end of October. City officials, local police, and the sanitation provider RER Vest are conducting field meetings with homeowners' associations in various neighborhoods, such as the Dacia and Nicolae Bălcescu areas. These sessions instruct residents on using the new system and remind them to use their previously issued access cards.
