Thekla, Inc. has released its narrative adventure and puzzle game, ‘Order of the Sinking Star’, directed by Jonathan Blow.

Developed over ten years, the project is described as a ‘game design supercollider’ that incorporates mechanics from several prominent puzzle designers. The final version features approximately 1,500 puzzles across four worlds, with an estimated completion time of roughly 500 hours. Released on October 8, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, the game utilizes sliding block mechanics and interconnected worlds for self-paced exploration. Players encounter unique characters, such as a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard, and a talking boat. The narrative is delivered through exploration and dialogue, focusing on a queen attempting to find her way back to her homeland while uncovering the mysteries of the divided realm. As gameplay progresses, the different puzzle systems from the four distinct environments intertwine as the worlds merge.

Prior to launch, trailers showcased the game’s non-linear structure, centered around a hub called the Overworld. This allows exploration of branching paths such as ‘The North’ and the ‘Mirror Isles’.

Following its release, Thekla reported strong early performance, noting that first-week sales exceeded those of their previous title, ‘The Witness’, by 45%. In collaboration with PM Studios, the company has also announced that physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in 2027.
