Organ donation awareness and procedures in Querétaro

Overview

In Querétaro, Mexico, efforts to increase organ and tissue donation awareness began with the opening of the ‘CreArte Conciencia 2026’ exhibition at Alameda Hidalgo. Organized by the State Transplant Center of Querétaro (CETQro), the event used photography and testimonials to educate the public, noting that approximately 16,000 patients were awaiting kidney transplants.

Following these awareness efforts, the Hospital General de Querétaro successfully completed a multi-organ donation. After the family of a 38-year-old patient diagnosed with brain death authorized the procedure, two kidneys were allocated to patients in Querétaro and a liver was sent to a recipient in Tijuana. The Querétaro State Health Secretariat (SESA) used the event to encourage citizens to register as voluntary donors through the National Transplant Center (CENATRA).
