Organized crime apartment occupations in Rome

Residents in the Cinecittà area of Rome have reported that an organized criminal network has been illegally occupying approximately 29 Enasarco apartments over the last three years. The network reportedly uses a method of identifying vacant properties, breaking in, and changing the locks.

According to local testimonies, the group charges between 20,000 and 30,000 euros for access to an apartment. Occupants reportedly do not pay ongoing costs, leaving unpaid taxes and building expenses to other property owners in the condominium. Due to difficulties with law enforcement intervention, residents claim they have organized their own patrols to protect their buildings.
