Orihuela school infrastructure protests

Overview

In Orihuela, parents and teachers at the Fernando de Loaces school held protests to denounce deteriorating infrastructure. The school’s parent association (AMPA) reported frequent power outages resulting from an outdated electrical installation that fails when air conditioning, computers, and lighting are used simultaneously.

Protesters noted that an electrical panel label indicated the last regulatory inspection was scheduled for 2013, suggesting a lack of maintenance. Additional concerns were raised regarding leaks in the dining hall and recent thefts. These claims contradict statements from local Education Councilor Vicente Pina, who asserted that electrical panels had been renovated. The AMPA has requested that the City Council release official reports regarding facility inspections and improvements.

Recent reports indicate that families in Orihuela continue to protest against deteriorating school buildings and insufficient staffing, as part of broader concerns regarding educational conditions in Spain.
