Orio leads league as Arraun Lagunak completes undefeated run

Overview

Orio has continued to extend its lead in the Eusko Label rowing league throughout the summer. Following early wins at Zierbena and in the Euskotren Liga, Orio entered the second third of the season in late July with a ten-point advantage.

On 1 August, Orio secured its seventh victory of the campaign during the tenth round in Santurtzi, finishing 11 seconds ahead of Zierbena and widening its lead to 15 seconds. During the same period, Arraun Lagunak won a separate Euskotren Liga race, highlighting the competitive depth of the region.

In a recent race in Getaria, Orio delivered a dominant performance, leading through the first three stretches. Skipper Gorka Aranberri described the performance as a “show.” This victory has increased Orio’s lead to 26 points over second-placed Zierbena. While the title is not yet mathematically certain, Orio is positioned as the primary favorite and could potentially clinch the league title in the upcoming Zarautz competition. Meanwhile, competition for lower standings remains active, with Galician boats Chapela and Ares showing upward movement.

Orio has since successfully clinched the Bandera de Zarautz, marking its 14th victory of the season and its eighth consecutive win. During the regatta, coxswain Gorka Aranberri celebrated his 100th Bandera win. Concurrently, Arraun Lagunak completed a historic season in the Euskotren League, finishing with a perfect record of 16 victories in 16 races and also securing the Bandera de Zarautz.

Following this undefeated run, the Donostia-based Arraun Lagunak secured the Zarautz Bandera with an eight-second lead over San Juan. The club is now shifting its focus toward the La Concha trophy. To celebrate these achievements, a formal reception involving technical staff and municipal representatives is scheduled at the Plaza de la Constitución in Donostia.
