Osogbo shooting involving Davido and Governor Adeleke

Overview

On August 19, 2026, a shooting incident in the Ita-Olokan area of Osogbo, Osun State, resulted in the death of 60-year-old Tajudeen Yusuf. The incident occurred near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo following a visit by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had recently received his election certificate of return.

Reports indicate that a confrontation began when an individual identified as Adebayo Taoreed, also known as ‘Small Rugged’, allegedly attempted to reach the singer Davido but was blocked by his security detail. This altercation reportedly drew other suspected gang members to the scene, who temporarily blocked the palace entrance and disrupted the movement of the governor’s convoy. While the governor’s convoy departed safely, Yusuf was shot and killed during the chaos. The victim was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations by the Osun State Police Command suggest that members of the Eye Confraternity may have been targeting the singer. Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi and Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo have confirmed the investigation is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Davido has addressed the incident on social media, dismissing reports that the governor’s convoy was the primary target. The singer stated that the shooting was an ‘unrelated fight occurring outside the palace’ and maintained there was no connection to his entourage. In the aftermath, Governor Adeleke has called for unity and reconciliation in Osun State, while President Bola Tinubu urged the governor to avoid stigmatizing political opponents.
