Ourense Film Festival 31st edition
Overview
The 31st edition of the Ourense Film Festival (OUFF) in Galicia, Spain, began with the announcement of its full programming, which included seven Spanish premieres within its International Official Section. Notable films in the lineup included Asghar Farhadi’s ‘Historias paralelas’ and Anke Blondé’s ‘Dust’. The festival officially commenced with an opening gala at the Ourense Municipal Auditorium. The ceremony featured musical performances and several industry honors, including the Chano Piñeiro Prize for producer José Manuel Lorenzo, the AISGE Award for Uxía Blanco, and the Calpurnia de Honor for actor Javier Gutiérrez. The opening event concluded with a screening of ‘Las ciegas hormigas’, directed by Igor Legarreta. During the current edition, the festival hosted two major cultural tributes. One event was a musical homage to the ‘Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy, marking the 25th anniversary of the Peter Jackson adaptations. The ‘OUFF Films Symphony’ performance featured over 120 musicians and singers from the Orquesta e Coro Ourensanía, directed by José Luis Tielas, performing Howard Shore’s original compositions. Additionally, the festival hosted the world premiere of a documentary by director María Yáñez dedicated to the legacy of singer Ana Kiro. The film, which explores the life and impact of the artist as a cultural icon for the Galician community and emigrants, is part of the festival’s Official Section, Panorama Galicia. The documentary is scheduled for a wider theatrical release in December. Further programming included the presentation of ‘Walking Holiday’ at the Centro Cultural Marcos Valcárcel. Directed by Irish brothers Cian and Jack Desmond, the film was shot in Galicia and stars Elena Seijo, following two strangers who connect while walking through the rural settings of Os Ancares.
