Pacific Palisades wildfire recovery efforts

Efforts to rebuild the Pacific Palisades following the January 2025 wildfires have focused on addressing housing shortages and financial barriers for survivors.

In late August 2026, the Uplifters Foundation announced plans to issue up to $250 million in municipal bonds through the California Public Finance Authority. This initiative aims to fund the construction of 60 new homes, valued at approximately $3 million each, to assist in area recovery. The Los Angeles City Council has supported the debt issuance, which does not require direct taxpayer funding. These homes will be leased initially with options to purchase, including price incentives for long-term residents.

By late September 2026, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles launched the ‘ReBUILD LA’ initiative. This community-driven program mobilizes volunteers and professionals to assist with home repairs and neighborhood revitalization. The initiative addresses the fact that approximately 75% of survivors remain displaced nearly 18 months after the fires, facing challenges such as rising construction costs and significant gaps between historical home values and current market prices.

As part of this effort, Habitat for Humanity is conducting a four-day community build to assist families in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu neighborhoods. The project involves more than 500 volunteers, including construction professionals, corporate partners, and various celebrities such as Joshua Jackson, Bellamy Young, Melissa Rivers, Betzaida Landin, and Sugar Ray Leonard. Supported by representatives from Paramount, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Discovery, the work includes framing new homes, repairing smoke-damaged properties, and revitalizing community spaces. The 2025 wildfires previously destroyed nearly 7,000 structures in the Los Angeles area.
