Padel growth and expansion in South America
Overview
Padel is experiencing rapid expansion and rising popularity across South America. In Colombia, the sport has seen significant infrastructure growth, with the country recording 233 active clubs and 687 courts across 53 cities as of early 2026. Economic activity in the Colombian sector surged in 2024, with court reservations increasing by 265% compared to the previous year.
This growth extends to other nations in the region. Argentina is hosting a major national tournament in Rosario involving over 500 pairs from 18 federations, while in Venezuela, padel has become a widespread social phenomenon. The sport’s growing international profile was further highlighted by its inclusion as an official discipline at the XIII South American Games Santa Fe 2026.
As the sport’s popularity increases, medical experts have noted rising injury risks. Studies suggest that between 40% and 70% of padel players experience injuries, frequently affecting the elbow, Achilles tendon, knee, ankle, and shoulder.
