Pakistan electricity tariff adjustments

Overview

In early September 2026, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved a combined electricity tariff increase of Rs2.58 per unit for consumers in Pakistan. This total was comprised of a Rs2.06 per unit monthly fuel price adjustment for July and a Rs0.52 per unit quarterly adjustment for the April-to-June period. The adjustments were expected to cost consumers approximately Rs45.67 billion in total.

By late September, the tariff landscape showed signs of volatility. While Nepra reduced the allowed average base tariff for K-Electric from Rs39.97 to Rs32.37 per unit, concerns emerged that uniform consumer tariff policies might prevent these savings from reaching households and factories. There were also warnings that a weakened financial position for the utility could lead to reduced maintenance and increased load-shedding.

Concurrently, the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) requested a further increase of approximately Rs1.73 per unit due to high August fuel costs from diesel, furnace oil, and imported LNG. If approved, this request could offset previous tariff reductions.
