Pakistan Independence Day security and traffic measures

Overview

In preparation for Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, various regional administrations have implemented measures to manage public safety and traffic flow.

In Peshawar, the district administration imposed Section 144, effective until August 15, to prevent disorder and accidents. Prohibited activities include aerial firing, the sale of firecrackers and toy weapons, and motorcycle stunts known as ‘one-wheeling’. Deputy Commissioner Sana Ullah Khan stated these measures aim to protect human life and reduce excessive noise.

In the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, authorities have announced significant logistical adjustments for celebrations scheduled for August 13–14. The National Highways and Motorway Police prohibited heavy vehicle entry from midnight on August 12 through midnight on August 14. Islamabad Police implemented a comprehensive traffic diversion plan for smaller vehicles, including the closure of the Expressway and Faisal Avenue between Koral Chowk and Khayaban Chowk, as well as various loops around Faizabad and Rawal Dam. Additionally, district orders mandated the closure of several local hiking trails, including Trails 2, 3, 4, and 5, on August 13.

In the aviation sector, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a notice to all flights operating at Islamabad International Airport. Due to planned air exercises and military flyovers, pilots have been instructed to carry extra fuel reserves to account for potential delays in takeoffs and landings, as aircraft may be required to hold in the air during ceremonial activities.
