Pakistan pension service digitization

Pakistan has introduced several digital initiatives to modernize and simplify pension services for citizens. Initially, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) launched a free Proof of Life Certificate service. This program, directed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, allows pensioners—particularly the elderly and those with limited mobility—to verify their status via the PakID mobile app, e-Sahulat franchises, or mobile registration vans.

Following this, the government, in collaboration with the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR), launched an e-Pension Portal. This system is designed to reduce processing times from months to days by offering online application tracking and SMS notifications. The portal also enables the direct transfer of funds to any commercial bank account. To replace manual paperwork, a new biometric verification system has been implemented, allowing pensioners to authenticate their identity every six months via fingerprint authentication at ATMs or bank branches, with future plans to include smartphone-based facial or fingerprint authentication.
