Pakistan’s SCO chairmanship and summit preparations

In July 2026 Pakistan, holding the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s chairmanship, hosted the 12th SCO Border Services meeting in Islamabad. Senior officials from all member states reviewed border‑security conditions, approved the joint operation “Solidarity‑2025”, and set the agenda for “Solidarity‑2026”, with Tajikistan proposing to host the 2027 operation. The meeting emphasized deeper cooperation on security, information sharing and combating trans‑national crime, and underscored Pakistan’s role in steering SCO activities through its 2026‑2027 term.

Later that month, Pakistan’s foreign ministry announced that the upcoming 2027 SCO summit in Islamabad will extend formal invitations to all members, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in line with SCO protocol. The statement also touched on a possible meeting between Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers at an ASEAN gathering, though no such request had been received from India. Together, these events illustrate Pakistan’s active diplomatic and security engagement as SCO chair, preparing both operational cooperation among border services and high‑level political participation for the 2027 summit.
