Paraguayan economic and financial sector growth

Overview

Paraguay is experiencing growth in its financial and business sectors. The Sistema de Pagos Instantáneos (SPI) has seen a surge in digital transactions, processing over 300 million operations in the first half of the year. This represents more than double the volume from the previous year, with July alone accounting for 64.3 million operations totaling approximately G. 85.7 trillion (USD 14 billion). This shift is characterized by a move toward everyday micro-transactions, supported by the Central Bank’s decision to increase instant transfer limits and the development of standardized QR code infrastructure.

Simultaneously, the country has seen an increase in new business registrations. During the first seven months of the year, 5,994 new legal companies were recorded through the Unified System for the Opening and Closing of Companies (SUACE). The majority of these are Simplified Shares Companies (EAS), which mobilized USD 384 million in capital. While 85% of this capital is from national sources, 15% comes from international investors including Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Bolivia. These new entities are primarily active in services, commerce, real estate, and agribusiness.
