Paralympic inclusion initiatives in Italy

Overview

Italy is hosting various initiatives to promote social inclusion and accessibility through paralympic sports. These efforts include BMW Motorrad’s SpecialMente program, which demonstrates barrier-free two-wheeled mobility, and the Obiettivo Tricolore paralympic relay.

The sixth edition of the Obiettivo Tricolore relay, which honors the memory of the late champion Alex Zanardi, is scheduled to run from September 20 to October 8. Officially presented at the Senate in Rome, the event involves approximately 50 athletes from the ‘Obiettivo3’ project. These participants will cover over 2,000 kilometers across 20 stages, traveling through regions such as Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lombardy, Veneto, and Friuli, before concluding in Trieste. Using handbikes, bicycles, and racing wheelchairs, the relay aims to demonstrate that “disability is not a limit to sport.”
