Paramount+ Scottish drama “Laird”

Paramount+ announced the greenlighting of a new drama series titled *Laird*, set in the modern Scottish Highlands. The series stars Oscar‑winning Kenneth Branagh as the Laird of Castle Drummoch and lists him as an executive producer. Created by playwrights Jez Butterworth, John‑Henry Butterworth and writer Georgia Lee, the pilot is directed by filmmaker Joe Wright. The storyline follows the laird’s struggle against a wealthy American billionaire who seeks to purchase the surrounding glens, exploring themes of heritage, power and family loyalty. Production is being handled by Paramount Television Studios in partnership with 101 Studios. While no specific release date has been set, a launch in 2027 has been mentioned in the later announcement.

Both July 22 and July 28 2026 releases convey the same core details, with the later notice adding the tentative 2027 launch timeline and reaffirming the series’ global premiere on Paramount+.
