Patras First Municipal Cemetery cultural recognition

Overview

The First Municipal Cemetery of Patras has been recognized as part of the Cultural Route of European Cemeteries for 2025 and has joined the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe (ASCE). Established in 1880, the site contains historical landmarks and graves linked to the 1821 Revolution.

To celebrate this inclusion, the Municipality of Patras is organizing a ceremony featuring musical performances by the Thanasis Tsipinakis String Night Orchestra. The event will include the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and a sculpture titled ‘In the place of my heart’. Created by sculptor Emilia Gioula-Giannopoulou using Mani marble, the sculpture is intended to serve as a symbol of eternal memory.
