Pavăl brothers international and domestic business expansion

The Pavăl brothers, owners of the Romanian retail chain Dedeman, are executing a broad expansion strategy involving international hospitality, retail acquisitions, and large-scale domestic developments.

In Europe, the brothers have expanded into luxury tourism by acquiring the Waldhaus Flims resort in Switzerland, where they plan to develop new accommodation and apartments. In Greece, they are restructuring the Praktiker DIY chain following a €125 million acquisition, which includes hiring 100 new employees and introducing enhanced benefits such as private health insurance.

In Romania, the brothers have significantly increased their market presence through the €823 million acquisition of Carrefour Romania. This move follows observations from market research firm YouGov suggesting that the exit of international players may reflect sector challenges related to fiscal unpredictability and new legislation. Additionally, they have launched a multi-phase commercial project in Dumbrăvița, Timiș County, involving the development of a large Dedeman DIY store and an extensive commercial complex.
