Pembrokeshire waste and recycling centre updates

Overview

Pembrokeshire County Council is implementing several changes to its waste and recycling centre operations. The council’s Cabinet approved plans to replace the existing booking system, which was introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, with automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) and resident vehicle registration. This transition aims to create a more flexible service while preventing commercial contractors from using the sites.

The rollout will occur in two phases, beginning with the Waterloo, Hermon, and St Davids sites before expanding to the remaining three locations.

Additionally, planners have approved the establishment of a reuse shop at the Waterloo Industrial Estate recycling centre. Supported by Welsh Government grants, this facility will focus on the circular economy by recovering and reselling items such as furniture, tools, and books that have been diverted from the waste stream.
