Perikatan Nasional Bersatu membership dispute
Overview
A dispute has emerged within Malaysia’s Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition regarding the membership status of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). The Registrar of Societies (RoS) began reviewing a formal complaint from Bersatu following claims by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that Bersatu’s membership had lapsed. Bersatu officials alleged they were excluded from a PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 regarding seat allocations for the Negeri Sembilan state election, an action they claim violates the coalition’s constitution.
As the investigation progressed, PN Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan disputed Bersatu’s reports to the RoS, calling them inaccurate. Takiyuddin asserted that Bersatu had already declared intentions to use its own logo for the upcoming election on July 15. In response, representatives for Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin challenged the authority of PN leadership to issue show-cause letters or adjudicate Bersatu’s legal status, maintaining that such matters fall exclusively under the jurisdiction of the RoS.
