Peru electronic passport service updates
Overview
The National Superintendency of Migrations in Peru has implemented several updates regarding electronic passport services.
Initially, the agency announced a temporary suspension of electronic passport issuance for scheduled technical maintenance on September 13, affecting all national offices including Jorge Chávez International Airport. Authorities advised travelers to take precautions to avoid flight delays during the maintenance window.
Following these technical updates, the agency introduced new policies to simplify application procedures for senior citizens. Under Agreement No. 24-2025, citizens aged 70 and older are no longer required to schedule virtual or in-person appointments. This exemption is scheduled to expand progressively to those aged 65 and older in 2027, and to those aged 60 and older by 2028, in an effort to reduce administrative burdens.
