Peru teacher sexual offense allegations and disciplinary 대응

Overview

The Peruvian Ministry of Education (Minedu) has implemented measures to restrict teachers accused of sexual offenses from entering classrooms or contacting students. Under these protocols, educators under preventive separation are required to perform administrative duties while their cases are processed.

According to Andrés Izaguirre, director of Teacher Development at Minedu, 432 cases are currently under investigation. The ministry has utilized the Disciplinary Administrative Procedures Module to identify these individuals and generate alerts. Data indicates that between 2014 and September 2024, 3,347 cases resulted in the dismissal of teachers for crimes against sexual freedom.

In a specific recent incident in Huancayo, a teacher at the Mariscal Castilla educational institution was preventively suspended following allegations of sexual assault against a 16-year-old student. While the local education authority, UGEL Huancayo, initiates an administrative process, the National Police and the Public Ministry are conducting criminal investigations. The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Violence against Women plans to interview the teenager using a Gesell chamber to gather testimony.
