Peruvian security and justice leadership changes
Overview
Peru has undergone leadership changes within its security and justice institutions. In early September 2026, Abraham Alejandro Lescano Salazar, a retired Air Force Colonel, was appointed president of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) to manage an emergency regime and oversee the transition toward the National Superintendency of Internment and Resocialization (SUNIR).
Later in the month, General Ricardo Espinoza Cuestas was named the new head of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri) of the National Police. This appointment was part of a broader reorganization of 23 general officers, with Espinoza Cuestas succeeding Víctor Revoredo Farfán, who moved to the Directorate of International Affairs.
