Petrosino anti‑mafia crackdown

Overview

In late July 2026 the Carabinieri and Palermo anti‑mafia prosecutors intensified the investigation into the Cosa Nostra clan based in Petrosino. On 23 July coordinated raids placed twelve suspects in pre‑trial detention and secured search warrants for nine minors. The seized evidence included 156 g of cocaine, two rifles, a pistol, 23 cartridges and a supply chain handling about 1.2 kg of cocaine and six kg of hashish, expanding the probe to roughly 40 people.

The detainees were transferred to the Pagliarelli prison in Palermo, where on 27 July they were questioned at 9:30 a.m. before investigating judge Claudia Rosini. The suspects invoked their right to silence. The prosecution team, led by magistrate Bruno Brucoli together with Pierangelo Padova and Federica Scuderi, presented the case that the clan controls the local territory through intimidation, violence and illicit revenue streams.

On 2 August General Ubaldo Del Monaco, commander of the Carabinieri Legion “Sicilia”, visited the provincial command in Trapani to commend the officers involved. He praised their professionalism, met provincial commander Mauro Carrozzo, and toured stations in Partanna and Gibellina, underscoring the Carabinieri’s role in safeguarding legality and security for the community.
