Philippine agricultural exports to Canada

Overview

The Philippines has initiated commercial shipments of tropical fruits to Canada, including durian, mangosteen, and Carabao mangoes, as part of a government effort to expand agricultural export markets and address trade deficits.

One metric tonne of Carabao mangoes arrived in Vancouver via Air Canada following a two-day shipment from Manila. This delivery was a collaborative effort involving the Mensch FilAm Corporation, the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry’s Export Marketing Bureau, and the Department of Agriculture. The mangoes, consisting of 250 cartons, were cleared through customs for distribution to Canadian supermarkets and institutional buyers by Fresh Makers Ltd.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. noted that these initiatives aim to bolster rural development and increase farm incomes by finding new international destinations for Philippine farm products.
