Piedmont Beef District Formation

In late July 2026, officials in Italy’s Piedmont region began formalising a dedicated district for the region’s prized Piemontese cattle. On July 28, more than 50 municipalities and 24 agricultural associations signed a protocol in Racconigi Castle, outlining a network to link farmers, processors, local authorities and industry bodies. The initiative, aligned with national ministry guidelines, aims to improve product quality, farm competitiveness and promote the area’s culinary heritage, with plans to create an overseeing association once the regional government approves the scheme.

Two days later, on July 29, the agreement was officially signed, expanding participation to 65 municipalities and 20 supporting entities across four provinces. Mayors from Racconigi, Carmagnola and the newly‑joined town of Chieri highlighted the district’s potential to strengthen a strategic sector of the Piedmont economy, enhance animal‑welfare standards and unlock funding for local producers. The launch marks the transition from a preparatory protocol to an operational district intended to boost the regional beef supply chain.
