Pisa academic and research institutional collaborations

Overview

In October 2026, six major research institutions in Pisa, including the University of Pisa, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Scuola Normale Superiore, the National Research Council (CNR), the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), and the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), formed the Pisa Knowledge Alliance. This network aims to unify regional research, training, and innovation to attract international talent and investment through shared infrastructure and talent mobility.

By November 2026, the University of Pisa expanded its collaborative efforts by signing a three year memorandum of understanding with the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. This partnership seeks to use the islands as a living laboratory for various scientific disciplines, including biological and geological sciences, as well as engineering and computer science. Specific initiatives include summer schools, scholarships, and field internships, with early projects focusing on supporting mariculture on the island of Capraia to address challenges posed by climate change and bacterial outbreaks.
