Overview

In late June 2026 a bulldog died on a PKP Intercity Warsaw‑Berlin train after exposure to extreme heat, sparking public concern over pet conditions on Polish railways. PKP Intercity expressed condolences and reminded passengers to look after animals.

Effective 23 July 2026 the operator rolled out a single extra‑service charge of 11.90 zł for luggage, bicycles and dogs, replacing earlier differentiated rates. Baggage fees rose by about 130 % and bike fees increased, while the ticket price for a dog fell roughly 22 % to 11.90 zł. Small dogs in compliant carriers travel free; larger dogs require a ticket, leash, muzzle and up‑to‑date rabies vaccination. Passengers buying the extra‑service ticket on board must also pay a 20 zł boarding surcharge.

A follow‑up announcement on 26 July clarified that the new tariff raises charges for larger luggage, bicycles and dogs, while some unified rates become cheaper for other travellers. At the same time PKP Intercity confirmed that Wi‑Fi will not be introduced on short‑distance, agglomeration routes, citing an estimated 220,000 zł per wagon cost, even though about 1,350 long‑distance carriages already provide the service.
