Pohang AI data center development

The development of a dedicated AI data center in Pohang, South Korea, has progressed from capacity commitments to active construction.

Initially, NHN Cloud announced a lease commitment to secure 20MW of power and space at the facility, which is being developed by AI Factory Pohang PFV in the Gwangmyeong General Industrial Complex. This expansion is intended to support growing demand for GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) and cloud services. To facilitate this, parent company NHN provided a debt guarantee of 110.1 billion won for NHN Cloud.

Subsequently, Hyundai Engineering & Construction commenced construction on the 40MW facility. To meet an accelerated 16.5-month timeline, the project utilizes precast concrete methods, Pre-Construction Services (PCS), and Fast-Track methods. The center is designed as a high-performance GPU-based facility featuring a liquid cooling system—noted as a first in Korea—to manage high-heat AI servers. The developer, Neo AI Cloud, intends for the infrastructure to be expandable to support next-generation GPUs.
