Poland diplomatic nomination dispute

A political dispute has developed in Poland between the Presidential Palace and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the nomination of ambassadors.

The disagreement initially centered on the technical quality of diplomatic documentation. Marcin Przydacz, head of the Presidential International Policy Bureau, criticized a request from Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, citing a candidate’s photo that used a ‘chiaroscuro’ technique with extreme light and shadow contrasts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs defended its standards and questioned the efficiency of the Chancellery.

The situation escalated into a broader diplomatic crisis involving President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. While Sikorski publicly appealed for the President to sign diplomatic nominations, Przydacz accused the Foreign Minister of engaging in ‘unclean political games’. Przydacz further alleged that although a package of professional diplomats had been previously negotiated, Prime Minister Tusk withdrew support for the agreement as part of a political decision to avoid cooperation with the President.
