Poland EU funding for health and defence projects

In late July 2026 Poland received two distinct allocations of European Union funding. On 24 July, the EU granted more than €4 million for two medical‑innovation initiatives: a cross‑border laparoscopic‑surgery upgrade linking the University Clinical Hospital in Rzeszów with the Lviv Regional Hospital for Veterans, and a €2 million THRIVE programme grant to the Medical University of Łódź to accelerate commercialisation of medical technologies across a fourteen‑partner consortium.

The following day, 25 July, Poland was named the largest beneficiary of the EU’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) defence fund, with permission to draw up to €43.734 billion—about 29 % of the programme’s €150 billion pool. The first tranche of €6.56 billion was released in May, with further disbursements tied to Poland’s defence procurement plan and expected to boost industrial output and GDP growth.
