Poland-India economic and strategic cooperation

Overview

Poland and India are working to expand bilateral relations across several industrial and strategic sectors. In early October, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans for a mission to New Delhi and Bengaluru involving nearly 100 companies to strengthen cooperation in defense, space, machinery, and food processing. On October 21, Prime Minister Tusk arrived in India for a three-day official visit to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit aims to convert the strategic partnership established in 2024 into tangible cooperation in trade, technology, and security.

During high-level talks, the leaders committed to doubling annual bilateral trade to approximately $12.6 billion by 2030 and discussed cooperation in defense manufacturing, nuclear energy, critical minerals, and emerging technologies such as semiconductors, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. To foster innovation, they committed to establishing an India-Poland StartUp Bridge and observing March 30 annually as Poland-India Partnership Day.

Concluding his visit on October 23, Tusk focused on strategic technological partnerships in artificial intelligence, aerospace, and digital services during meetings in Bengaluru. He emphasized the potential for joint research and development to introduce new digital products to global markets. In Karnataka, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing. A notable proposal from Poland’s TZMO Group involves an ₹80-crore investment in the KIADB Vemgal Industrial Area, which could create approximately 1,000 jobs. Additionally, discussions touched upon creating a Karnataka–Katowice Digital and Gaming Corridor. Tusk also noted that India expressed support for Poland’s efforts to secure a permanent seat in the G20.
