Poland road infrastructure development and repairs

Poland continues various road infrastructure developments and modernization projects across several regions. National-scale efforts include major highway repairs and expansions on the A1, A2, A4, and A6 motorways, as well as tenders for new bypasses on the DK15 route and local road additions along the Zakopianka (DK7) to manage transit traffic. At the local level, projects include the modernization of county road No. 1900R in Makowiska, which involved a 1.8 million PLN investment for new surfaces, drainage, and pedestrian paths. Other regional works include bridge renovations in Elbląg, new bridge openings in Bobrza, and intersection capacity improvements in Mosina. In Elbląg, the renovation of the Cardinal Wyszyński Bridge is scheduled to begin in late September. This high-priority project involves replacing a bridge span, which will require a temporary closure of the crossing. To minimize disruptions, the city has coordinated the start date with ongoing roadwork at the Elbląg Wschód junction managed by GDDKiA. While the S7 and S22 routes will remain accessible, a temporary one-way crossing on Wapienna Street will open for passenger vehicles, and heavy vehicles exceeding 3.5t will be redirected to the European Union Route. Recent developments managed by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) include the expansion of the A2 motorway and the construction of the Krotoszyn, Zdun, and Cieszków bypasses on the DK15. A pilot project utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) is also being implemented for the Zator bypass. Maintenance efforts on the A1 motorway are addressing surface deformations, with structural repairs expected to continue until August 2027. In the southern region, plans are advancing for additional lanes on the Zakopianka route between Krakow and Głogoczów.
