Poland ZUS service restructuring

Poland’s social insurance agency, ZUS, has been implementing a series of operational changes in 2026. Starting 1 January, medical commissions serving the Bydgoszcz and Toruń branches were transferred to offices in Gdańsk and Łódź, a move driven by staffing shortages. The restructuring also reduced the typical three‑member commission to a single member, retaining larger panels only for exceptional cases, and will remain in effect through the end of the year.

Later in the summer, ZUS announced that on 14 August all client service halls and its telephone centre will close nationwide, in line with labour‑code rules that require a compensatory day off when a statutory holiday falls on a non‑working day. Customers are urged to use the 24/7 eZUS electronic platform for applications, pension calculations and certificates, ensuring continuity of services despite the physical closures.

Both measures reflect a broader effort by ZUS to adapt its service delivery amid personnel constraints, shifting more interactions to online channels and consolidating in‑person functions to fewer locations.
