Polaris Music Prize 2026 updates

Overview

In early July 2026 the Polaris Music Prize announced its ten‑album shortlist, featuring both established and first‑time nominees such as Charlotte Cornfield, Aquakultre, Angine de Poitrine and Peaches. At the same time the organizers detailed reforms for the 2026 cycle: the main cash award was lowered to CAD 30,000, a new CAD 10,000 SOCAN Polaris Song Prize was introduced, the juror pool was expanded to 205 experts, and a multi‑city Polaris Festival was announced.

On 29 July the shortlist for the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize was released, naming five Canadian songs—“Fabienk” (Angine de Poitrine), “Hurts Like Hell” (Charlotte Cornfield), “Hunger For Death” (PUP), “House on Fire” (Patrick Watson & Martha Wainwright) and “Lean” (Charlotte Day Wilson feat. Saya Gray). The $10,000 award will be divided between the performers and credited songwriters, with the winning song to be revealed at the Polaris Prize ceremony on 22 September 2026 at Toronto’s Massey Hall.
