Police impersonation fraud targeting elderly
Overview
Reports have emerged of a criminal tactic involving individuals impersonating police officers to target elderly victims in the Netherlands and Germany.
In Roosendaal, an 84-year-old woman was targeted by a caller claiming to be an officer warning of burglaries. A man arrived at her home under the guise of a colleague to photograph her jewelry for security purposes, but instead fled with the items. The suspect was described as a light-skinned man around 30 years old with black curly hair and a beard.
Similarly, in Niefern-Öschelbronn, a fraudster contacted an elderly man claiming a local robbery had occurred and that his valuables needed to be placed in police custody for protection. The perpetrator, described as a man between 30 and 40 years old with a sturdy build and a black beard, stole cash and gold coins before fleeing the scene.
