Police motorcycle collision during Tre Valli Varesine
Overview
During the Tre Valli Varesine cycling race in Italy, riders Marcel Camprubí and Thomas Gloag of the Pinarello-Q36.5 team were involved in a collision with a police motorcycle. The incident occurred at a roundabout open to traffic while the riders were descending at approximately 70 km/h.
While the peloton was able to maneuver around the motorcycle, Camprubí and Gloag could not avoid the vehicle. Gloag struck the motorcycle with his body and was forced to retire from the race, requiring stitches for a knee injury. Camprubí impacted with his bicycle and reported soreness in his neck and upper body, though he did not require hospitalization.
Following the crash, professional cyclist Tom Pidcock expressed intense frustration, stating he “wanted to stop the race entirely.” Camprubí also voiced concerns regarding safety, stating, “When lives are at stake, we should be a little more cautious.”
