Police operation and manhunt in Dulwich Hill

Overview

On October 16, 2026, a major police operation was launched in the Sydney suburb of Dulwich Hill following reports of gunfire. NSW Police established a large exclusion zone near Williams Parade and Constitution Road to search for a man allegedly armed with a sawn-off shotgun. The incident led to the lockdown of local businesses and schools, including Dulwich Hill Public School, and the suspension of light rail services. Witnesses reported an altercation and a vehicle fire in an underground carpark, though no injuries were initially reported.

By October 18, police arrested 32-year-old Jake Kermode in Burwood in connection with the Dulwich Hill incident. Kermode faces multiple charges, including armed robbery and possession of a shortened firearm, following allegations that he threatened witnesses with a shotgun and set fire to a stolen van.
