Police suicide prevention interventions in Italy

Overview

In October 2026, Italian police conducted two separate successful interventions to prevent individuals from committing suicide.

In Fabriano, officers rescued a 24-year-old man from the San Cristoforo railway bridge. The man had fled a hospital emergency room while in psychological distress and was leaning over a railing 15 meters above the tracks. Officers climbed over the safety barrier to maintain physical contact and prevent his fall before handing him over to medical staff.

In Santhià, railway police intervened to save a 31-year-old man sitting on the tracks with his back to an approaching train. After officers engaged him in dialogue, he was moved away from the tracks and taken to a police station until medical personnel could transport him to a hospital in Vercelli.
