Police warning of influencer over metro fare evasion

Overview

Influencer Ilyas Maluma received an oral warning from Turin Police Commissioner Massimo Gambino after posting a viral video demonstrating how to bypass metro turnstiles to avoid paying fares. Authorities expressed concern that the content, which included an invitation for followers to replicate the behavior, could encourage illegal actions among young audiences.

In addition to the fare evasion video, the police cited Maluma’s perceived social danger, noting previous investigations for crimes against persons and property, as well as social media posts displaying cash, traffic law violations, and objects resembling weapons.

Maluma deleted the video and released an apology, stating the act was intended as “purely ironic and provocative” entertainment. He clarified, “When I said: ‘I’ll teach you to jump, I was joking. I absolutely do not want the kids who follow me to do illegal things but to respect the rules and pay the ticket.” The official warning was served to him by Border Police at Fiumicino upon his return from abroad.
