Polish agricultural yield challenges

Overview

Agricultural production in Poland has faced significant challenges due to extreme weather volatility. In late July, cereal crops including oats, barley, and wheat experienced a phenomenon known locally as “odmładzanie,” where secondary green shoots emerged following a transition from severe drought to heavy rainfall. This regrowth complicates harvesting by increasing moisture content, raising the risk of mold, and reducing overall grain quality.

Additionally, the 2025/2026 winter rapeseed season saw a decline in standard yields by approximately 10.6% compared to the previous year. This decrease was attributed to a series of adverse conditions, including an exceptionally wet autumn, a freezing winter without snow cover, May frosts, and spring droughts. While individual farm yields varied drastically, research into new hybrid varieties has identified some high-potential candidates that outperformed standard benchmarks.
