Polish emergency services infrastructure upgrades

Overview

Emergency services in Poland continue to undergo infrastructure and equipment modernization. Building on previous upgrades, such as the thermal modernization of the Emergency Medical Service facility in Żywiec, recent investments have focused on expanding vehicle fleets and specialized medical gear.

In the Podkarpackie region, a 4.216 million PLN investment funded by the Population Protection and Civil Defense program is providing four new 4x4 ambulances and bariatric stretchers to the Provincial Ambulance Stations in Rzeszów and Przemyśl. In the Silesian Voivodeship, 25 Volunteer Fire Departments (OSP) have been granted funds to acquire new rescue-firefighting vehicles and specialized transport cars. Localized support continues in municipalities like Sońsk, which acquired new medical rescue equipment via the Ciechanów County budget, and Górzyca, where OSP Czarnów received a new firefighting vehicle to replace a unit lost to a previous fire.

Concurrently, mountain rescue units are facing high operational demands. In the Beskid mountains, GOPR units reported over 40 interventions in a single month, including several high-priority cases requiring helicopter transport. Similarly, TOPR in the Tatra Mountains has managed numerous incidents, ranging from cardiac issues to fatal falls, frequently utilizing helicopters for tourist evacuations.
