Polish governing coalition performance and political shifts

Members of the Polish governing coalition have conducted regional reviews to assess their performance since taking office in December 2023.

Initial briefings focused on the utilization of National Recovery Plan (KPO) funds to bolster healthcare, transport, and electromobility. Specific achievements highlighted include the restoration of the in vitro program, expanded prenatal testing, and increased investments in cardiology, oncology, and psychiatry. Social initiatives, such as the Senior Voucher for elderly home care, were also noted as key successes.

Subsequent reviews expanded the scope to include national security and migration policy. Lawmakers emphasized increased defense spending and the ‘East Shield’ program. While highlighting progress in energy, rail transport, and childcare, coalition members also identified political friction, noting that presidential vetoes from President Karol Nawrocki have hindered the full implementation of legislative plans.

Recent developments indicate shifting political dynamics and regional infrastructure projects. In Białystok, an agreement was signed for a 110 million PLN municipal housing project on Absolwentów Street, while Bielsko-Biała opened a new community center despite local concerns regarding spending priorities like road maintenance.

On the national stage, political polling shows Koalicja Obywatelska leading with 27.8 percent support, followed by Prawo i Sprawiedliwość at 19.1 percent. Discussions continue regarding future electoral lists and the necessity of preventing vote splitting among parties that might fail to meet electoral thresholds. Tensions remain regarding the role of President Karol Nawrocki in the legislative process and potential cooperation between right-wing factions.
