Local authorities in the Poznań region of Poland announced plans to install "Uwaga jeże" (Hedgehog Warning) signs on county roads. The municipality will use resident‑submitted data to identify frequent crossing points and select locations for the signs, aiming to reduce vehicle‑related hedgehog deaths and raise driver awareness.

Around the same time, a study led by Nottingham Trent University and reported by BBC News highlighted that road traffic accounts for a large share of hedgehog mortality in the United Kingdom and warned that similar risks are emerging in Poland. The research pointed to habitat fragmentation, lack of collision data, and other threats such as agricultural machinery and chemicals as factors endangering Polish hedgehog populations. Experts called for improved monitoring and mitigation measures across European roads.
