Polish insurance market performance trends

Overview

The Polish insurance market experienced varying performance metrics throughout the first half of 2026. In the autocasco (AC) segment, technical results declined sharply from 478.58 million PLN to 96.09 million PLN. While gross written premiums for the broader sector rose by 6.56% year-on-year, AC claims and benefits surged by 11.48%, driven by increased claim frequency and higher settlement costs. The Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) noted that this deterioration might stem from aggressive price competition.

In the corporate insurance sector, premiums accelerated during the second quarter of 2026 following a weak first quarter. Growth in the Fire & Property segment reached 106% in Q2, while liability insurance saw a 5% increase in the first half of the year. The motor corporate segment also showed improvement, with Q2 growth reaching 105% after previous declines. Despite this premium growth, profitability remains a concern, as the technical margin for motor insurance was reported at only 0.9% for the first half of the year.
